Primitive Surgery

Welcome to Surgery Week here at OPOD. We will be looking at the standards of medical care 100 years ago. I will give you a head's up . . . some of it is a little frightening. We start with this picture from 1903. A patient is being operated on at Jefferson Medical College, as a large crowd looks on. I would have thought that at this time there would have been more sensitivity to sterile conditions, but I guess not.
